The former Military Road School will be converted to senior assisted living.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has announced $500,000 for the Niagara County Center for Economic Development to help clean up and redevelop brownfield sites.

The allocation is one of 27 made by the EPA nationally, totaling $11.6 million. Those 27 communities have already demonstrated success in using previous Brownfield Revolving Loan Funding and Niagara Falls is the only site in New York to get this money.

In a release, Niagara County Legislature Chairwoman Becky Wydysh said that under previous EPA loans, 14 properties have been remediated, environmental contamination addressed and new economic opportunities created.

The new funding will be used for the cleanup of the former Military Road School, to result in its conversion into the first senior assisted living complex in the Town of Niagara. The project will provide 100 construction jobs and 20 permanent jobs.
