Staff at FeedMore Western New York are spending Earth Day prepping their Holt Street community garden for the upcoming summer season.
FeedMore is a new collaborative effort between the Food Bank of Western New York and Meals on Wheels. Communication Director Catherine Shick says it’s not only important to give residents access to local fresh foods, but also to educate them on healthy eating habits.
“We’re going to have nutrition classes throughout the season, different classes, and different subjects. We’ll also have master gardeners available to really teach how to go about everything in the growing season. You’ll know how to make the most of your garden, how to plant, how to harvest your garden,” Shick said.
The garden will be open Monday through Saturday, with master gardeners on hand for workshops on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The first workshop is scheduled to kick off April 27 at 10:30 a.m.
