Waterkeeper announces plans for water-themed environmental hub

The Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper has announced plans to create a hub for the region’s ecotourism called the Waterways Center.

The center will be a multi-purpose facility offering access to water recreational activities, environmental education and it will be the future location of waterkeeper's offices.

"We see it serving as an anchor facility," said Jill Jedlicka, executive director for Waterkeeper. "We see our region, our waterfront,  as on the cusp of being on an internationally recognized outdoor recreation hub. So we certainly want paddle sport access, paddle sport businesses can potentially to locate there. We also envision programming out of that site, that really supports environmental education and academic usage."

Jedlicka says the goal is to advance to the next phase of the region’s "rust to blue" transition. A location has not yet been determined.
