Letchworth State Park 2nd in NYS for campers

New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation

Campers flocked to New York State Parks in record numbers for the fifth year in a row this year.

Governor Cuomo says campsites, cabins and cottages at state parks were occupied for more than 633,000 nights through Columbus Day, setting a new record.

The highest numbers of campers were at Wellesley Island in the Thousand Islands, with nearly 31,000, and Letchworth State Park in Western New York with nearly 27,000.

The governor's administration says state park camping occupancy has climbed nearly 17 percent since 2011, rising every year. Cuomo's "NY Parks 2020" plan is committed to investing about $900 million in private and public funding in state parks from 2011 to 2020.
