The Frontier Central School Board on Tuesday selected C. Douglas Whelan as its interim superintendent, replacing Acting Superintendent Colleen Duggan.
Duggan replaced Superintendent Richard Hughes on Dec. 15, when the board agreed to a separation agreement with Hughes "in the best interests of the district." No further details were provided about his departure.
This is the second time Whelan has been chosen as Frontier's interim superintendent. He served for four months in 2017 after Bret Apthorpe left for a similar position at Jamestown City Schools, and left when Hughes was hired.
Whelan is a former longtime superintendent of Starpoint Central Schools and will take over at Frontier around Jan. 25. A new superintendent hire is expected to be chosen over the summer.
