East Aurora Schools are going remote-only for two weeks, beginning Monday. In a letter to families, Superintendent Brian Russ says the current plan is to resume hybrid learning on Dec. 7.
The change comes as most of Erie County is under a new "yellow zone" designation due to rising COVID-19 cases, and the Thanksgiving holiday is forecast to increase cases even more.
Part of the state's requirements for yellow zones is to test 20% of school staff and students for COVID-19 in order to keep campuses open.
Russ says testing remains a "significant logistics issue" for the district. It “will not begin any testing program without informing parents and staff of the process, and will not test any student without parental consent."
