Orchard Park Middle School reports a coronavirus case

Google Maps

Orchard Park Schools have notified families that "an individual" at its Middle School has tested positive for COVID-19.

Schools Superintendent Matthew McGarrity said that person was last present at the Middle School Sept. 14 and that the district is cooperating with the Erie County Department of Health on further steps, including contact tracing and quarantine procedures.

"This individual and any individuals identified by the health department as being close contacts will be expected to follow the DOH’s quarantine/isolation guidelines and will not return to school until they have completed the quarantine/isolation procedures for COVID-19 as directed by the Erie County Department of Health," said McGarrity. "Rest assured, that on a nightly basis our school buildings and buses are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected."

The district is not releasing any further details due to privacy rights. However, McGarrity said it will provide further updates if additional steps need to be taken.

"Please continue to monitor your child for symptoms and have him/her stay home if they are sick," he said. "In addition, please contact your child’s healthcare provider if they develop symptoms or if you have any additional questions or concerns."

As of Wednesday morning, the case has not yet showed up on thestate's COVID-19 Report Card, which is supposed to be a one-stop look at cases across all New York school districts. However, schools have been slow to input data into the database.
