Wallace calls for suspension of college entrance tests for 2 years

Office of Monica Wallace

New York State Assemblymember Monica Wallace is calling on the State University of New York and the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities to suspend standardized college entrance test requirements for all freshman applicants for at least two years.

The Lancaster Democrat said access to in-person exams is scarce because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The College Board has canceled the June SAT exam and has abandoned plans for in-home SAT exams due to problems with its attempts to administer Advanced Placement in-home testing.

Wallace stated that the lack of an ability to take a standardized test should not deny access to higher education for a student because of inadequate preparation due to the COVID-19 crisis, economic hardship or the George Floyd protests.

Mark Wozniak, WBFO's local All Things Considered host, has been at WBFO since mid-1978.
