Niagara County Community College has selected its new president and it is a familiar name.
The SUNY Board of Trustees, in conjunction with the NCCC Board of Trustees, have chosen William Murabito as the college's seventh president. Murabito has served as interim president for the past two years.
Murabito takes over for James Klyczek, who retired under fire in April 2017. Klyczek was the college's longest-serving president, but was being investigated for big rigging contracts and disparaging comments made to college administrators about a sexual assault victim.
“Since the beginning of his interim role as president in fall 2017, Dr. Murabito brought stability to the NCCC campus by negotiating a contract for faculty, redesigning the role of the College Association and laying the foundation for the STEM Center funding,” said NCCC Board of Trustees Chair William Ross. “Dr. Murabito has proven to be a collaborative, strategic leader and we are confident that he will continue to provide strong leadership to NCCC going forward.”
There was no mention of Klyczek in the college's announcement.
This is Murabito's first position as president, after serving as interim president at several SUNY schools, including Morrisville, Sullivan and Cobleskill. He was also CEO for Rockland Community College and held other leadership roles at SUNYIT (now SUNY Polytechnic Institute), Alfred State College and Mohawk Valley Community College.
