Medaille celebrates opening of new athletics complex

Medaille College kicked off its new sports home in South Buffalo yesterday with wins in both women's and men's soccer. For the first time in 22 years of Medaille athletics the college has an outdoor facility, located at the former site of the Buffalo Color plant.

The site required tens of millions of dollars to clean up and redevelop. South Buffalo Development is  continuing to put new facilities on the land.

"This collaborative effort demonstrates a strong commitment to providing both our student-athletes and the community the resources needed to succeed at the highest level by providing these state-of-the-art accommodations," said athletics director Susan Roarks .

"We could not ask for a better new space to call our forever home."

The new facility has a turf field home for soccer and lacrosse and a building and classroom complex.

"Students are very excited," said Medaille President Kenneth Macur. "We really hope that we'll be able to increase the number of students because of the quality of the athletic experience and certainly we look forward to increasing the number of student-athletes on campus."

The college currently offers 18 varsity sports.
