Comptroller audit: Many schools not ready for emergencies

Abby Lambert / State Comptroller's Office
WBFO Albany Correspondent Karen DeWitt (l) interviews State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli.

An audit from the state’s comptroller, Tom DiNapoli, finds that many schools across New York are not meeting requirements under a state law to prepare for emergencies, including possible school shootings. The audit comes as a shooter in California killed a six year old boy and a teenaged girl. DiNapoli sat down with Capitol Correspondent Karen DeWitt to talk about the shortcomings that he found.

Karen DeWitt is Capitol Bureau Chief for New York State Public Radio, a network of 10 public radio stations in New York State. WBFO listeners are accustomed to hearing DeWitt’s insightful coverage throughout the day, including expanded reports on Morning Edition.
