Eighteen area school districts were awarded state funding for technology upgrades on Monday, according to an announcement by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.The investments are part of the $2 billion Smart Schools Bond Act, which supports classroom technology, high-tech security and school connectivity.
"The Smart Schools Bond Act is enhancing school safety and modernizing outdated classrooms in every corner of New York State,” Cuomo said. "This funding expands opportunity and provides students with the skills and technology they need to succeed in the 21st century economy."
The governor announced 96 new Smart Schools Investment Plans totaling $85 million Monday. Cheektowaga, Wyoming and Fredonia central school districts, as well as St. Mary’s School for the Deaf in Buffalo, are among the new recipients in Western New York.
Other local districts that have already received some funding from the Smart Schools Review Board, including Buffalo, Grand Island and Medina, were authorized for additional funds.

Cattaraugus: Allegany-Limestone Central School District ($1.2 million for high-tech security); Gowanda Central School District ($249,530 for classroom technology); Randolph Central School District ($543,328 for school connectivity and $529,900 for high-tech security)
Chautauqua: Forestville Central School District ($48,989 for classroom technology); Fredonia Central School District ($139,209 for high-tech security); Frewsburg Central School District ($355,306 for classroom technology); Silver Creek Central School District ($54,896 for school connectivity and $522,532 for high-tech security)
Genesee: Elba Central School ($20,197 for high-tech security); Leroy Central Schools ($295,396 for high-tech security)
Niagara: Royalton-Hartland Central Schools ($202,149 for classroom technology)
Orleans: Holley Central Schools ($291,000 for classroom technology and $250,000 for high-tech security); Medina Central School District ($859,800 for school connectivity)
Wyoming: Warsaw Central School District ($99,767 for school connectivity and $601,510 for high-tech security); Wyoming Central School District ($51,981 for classroom technology and $58,172 for high-tech security)
