Sunday's windstorm pulled apart and damaged the roof at the University of Buffalo bookstore on the north campus in Amherst. WBFO's senior reporter Eileen Buckley says it was closed at the time and no one was hurt.
“The bookstore is closed today and will be closed until further notice,” said John Della Contrada, UB spokesman.
Della Contrada tells WBFO News work is underway to review damage, including replacement of some skylights in the bookstore building. The bookstore is owned and operated by a national retailer called Follett Corporation.
“Which is a national retailer in the higher education marketplace and they have a contractor on the site, accessing the damage,” explained Della Contrada.
Della Contrada says there was other minor damage at UB on Sunday.
“Pretty minimal damage elsewhere at the University – only about $10,000 worth of damage. A couple of windows were blown out and needed to be replaced and some damage to some doors,” Della Contrada described. “All in all – not that much damage other than what happened at the bookstore. It was mostly on the north campus.”
UB’s student newspaper, The Spectrum tweeted out photos of the damaged roof on its Twitter feed Sunday afternoon.
