Buffalo Storm Update: Schools closed, City Hall reopens

Students in the Buffalo Public School District will have one more day off Friday due to the winter storm.  WBFO's senior reporter Eileen Buckley says the announcement was issued Thursday afternoon. 

“The Buffalo Public Schools will be closed,” stated Kriner Cash, Buffalo Schools Superintendent.

Cash making declaration during a City Hall news conference as the Mayor gave an update on the storm's aftermath.  The District school closing includes all school programs and after school activities today.  But for some school district City Hall staffers, it's back to work Friday.

"School staff will not be expected to report to work, but Central Office staff, who work here in City Hall will be expected to report to work. Also all Saturday and weekend activities sponsored by the schools will be closed until Monday. Monday will be a fresh start for everything regarding the school system,” announced Cash.

But it's back to classes for the University at Buffalo. UB said it will resume regular operations and its academic schedule Friday.

Buffalo City Hall also will be open Friday. Officials say all city payments that were due between Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 can be paid  by 4:30 p.m. Feb. 6. City-operated recreation centers, senior centers and pools will be closed until Feb. 4. Trash and recycling pickup has been suspended until next week.
