Some very talented students from area schools are performing live holiday music inside the NFTA's bus terminal in downtown Buffalo. WBFO's senior reporter Eileen Buckley was there as the NFTA kicked off The Sound of the Season Friday.

“Our Sounds of the Season event is a truly noteworthy cause,” declared Kimberly Minkle, NFTA executive director.

The voices of the Buffalo Academy of Visual and Performing Arts (BAVP) chorus filled the bus station.  Students are providing entertainment for travelers and the public is also being asked to bring cans of soup or other non-perishable items and new socks to the bus terminal. It will benefit the Food Bank of Western New York and the Matt Urban Hope Center. The Food Bank's Catherine Shick is thrilled to see the collections for the high-rates of hunger in the region.

“It’s just so wonderful. What an amazing opportunity to bring so much joy and light to this important drive and give back to the community, not just through can goods and sock donations, but through song. It’s just a really, really great event,”

Shick tells WBFO News hunger is very pervasive throughout the region. The public can bring items to the bus terminal during any of the lunchtime performances or to the NFTA’s Airport firehouse located at 120 Amherst Villa Road.

Last year the NFTA collected 9,000 pairs of socks for Matt Urban.
