NY's population decline is leaving rural students 'left behind'

The exodus of residents from New York State is having a crushing impact on the rural schools of the Southern Tier. With student enrollment down 14 percent over the last decade in Cattaraugus and Allegany counties, districts with limited resources are struggling to provide high-level courses. Reporter Tom Dinki of the Olean Times Herald spent eight months analyzing and researching the issues in producing the series "The state of New York rural schools: Left behind."
