Cash scores high on school board evaluations

Kriner Cash received a B on his report card last night, as the Buffalo school board completed its annual evaluation of the schools superintendent.

After receiving his grade, Cash worked to share the success.

"They're not just evaluating the superintendent, they're evaluating the work of the staff and the work of the community, the teachers, the students, the parents, everyone," Cash said.

"So, it's a time to have an honest and clear communication and lift up what's been going well and talk about areas that need to continue to be worked on and improved."

The board spent several hours on Tuesday and two hours Wednesday applying evaluation tools and talking to the superintendent before issuing the grades.

"I am just ecstatic about the new opportunities our students are having and experiencing in our schools," said Board Member Theresa Harris-Tigg, who sees the district's evolving community schools as a key part of Cash's progress.

Board President Barbara Seals-Nevergold shared those sentiments, crediting Cash with working with "stakeholders to address the myriad challenges we've encourntered."

In summarizing the evaluation, the board says there is forward momentum and Cash is expected to build on that to make city schools a national point of excellence for urban public education.
