Planning the search process for new NCCC leader

WBFO News photo by Eileen Buckley

It will be a few months before the official search process for a new president at Niagara County Community College kicks off. WBFO’s senior reporter Eileen Buckley recently met with the interim leader about the process.

“I’m not a candidate - my job is to make the campus ready and clear away some issues so we can attract the best candidate possible,” said William Murabito, interim president at NCCC in Sanborn.

Murabito was retired from SUNY, but appointed to serve and guide the college after the departure of the former president James Klyczek, who retired in April of 2017 under pressure in the midst of scandals at the school, that included how he handle the report of a sexual abuse case on campus and alleged bid rigging involved in the construction of the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute. He was subpoena in that case.

Murabito been working to make changes before a new leader is selected.

“Because when you get down to the end, there will be three or four candidates - all with offers from other campuses - cause we’re going to get some good people, so at that point - convince those people - or one of those people to come here,” remarked Murabito.

Murabito pointed out it will be a few months before they begin seeking application. A SUNY representative will attend the board of trustees meeting August 21st.  That’s when board members will learn about a plan to fill the position. The board will first need to hire a search firm.

William Murabito is serving as interim president at NCCC.

“Generating an RFP for search firm, betting a perspectus ready, advertising, spring for decision making on who’s going to interview in the first batch - who’s going to be the finalist and then working with SUNY on how we bring the final candidate to SUNY because the SUNY Board also has to approve the final candidate,” Murabito explained.

Murabito said the plan is to select a new leader by July 1st of 2019.
