The leader of Nichols School will be leaving after the next school year. Bill Clough, Head of School at Nichols in Buffalo, has announced the 2018-19-school year will be his last. Clough wrote to the Board of Trustees Chair, Jeff Meyer and board to inform them he would be stepping down.
“I write to tell you that I will finish my tenure as Head of Nichols School on June 30, 2019,” Clough said in a letter sent to the Nichols community today. “I am sharing this news a year in advance to give the Board of Trustees the time they need to identify my successor, and Jeff Meyer and I are already working together to ensure a smooth transition.”
But Clough said it was a decision he and his wife made and was not a "spontaneous" and want to be closer with their families.
“This decision belongs to me and Nannie,” he wrote. “It was not a spontaneous decision, and Jeff and I have been talking for some time. Our decision has everything to do with family. Our children are grown and flown, we are a great distance from our extended family, and Nannie and I hope to be closer to them.”
Board Chair Meyer calls Clough's work "tremendous" and praised Clough for his outstanding leadership and dedicated service.
“Bill has done tremendous work at Nichols,” wrote Meyer. “Although we are sad that Bill will be leaving us and will miss him greatly, we celebrate what will be his six years at Nichols and look forward to his continuing strong leadership through June 2019.”
Meyer said a search for a new leader will begin immediately.
Clough arrived nearly six years ago at Nichols School. Among his accomplishments listed, Clough hired the school's first Director of Inclusivity and Community Building.
Under Clough's leadership, with the board, an investigation was revealed earlier this year that 10-teachers over a few decades had inappropriate relationships with students.
