NYS Teacher of the Year hails from Brockport

New York State Education Department

A Brockport elementary school teacher has been named New York State's Teacher of the Year.

The state's Board of Regents honored Christopher Albrecht on Tuesday, saying he has been a positive force in the lives of his students for more than 20 years.

Albrecht teaches fourth grade at Fred W. Hill School in Brockport. While there, he started the Hill School Spelling Bee, the Hill School yearbook committee and an afterschool running program that focuses on helping children with special needs build confidence.  He has also coached high school baseball and soccer.

In addition to representing teachers at various events in the coming year, Albrecht will be New York's nominee for National Teacher of the Year.
