Two local high school students compete for national theater award

WBFO News photo by Eileen Buckley

Two high school students from Western New York were the top Kenny Award winners hosted by Shea's Performing Arts Center.  The event recognizes students in high school musicals.  WBFO's senior reporter Eileen Buckley says Monday evening the local students will be attending the National Jimmy Awards in New York City where they are among 74-high school students competing for Best Actor and Best Actress.

Grace Aurer of Beamus Point was named Best Actress at the local Kenny Awards. Aurer is heading into her senior year at Maple Grove Jr/Sr High School.

Ian Hayes of Hamburg was named Best Actor at the Kenny Awards. He just graduated from Frontier High School and will be attending SUNY Fredonia for Theater this fall.

Both local high school students are now competing for those titles nationally.
