East High principal placed on administrative leave

The Buffalo Public School district has placed East High School Principal Casey Young on administrative leave. The District is investigating graduation data from the high school.  Schools Superintendent Dr. Kriner Cash, in a written statement, said he has 'initiated an investigation into East High School’s 2015 summer credit recovery program.

Cash said the data raises several questions 'concerning an internal audit of graduation data' that he had requested soon after he arrived.

"We are currently in the middle of an internal fact-finding investigation focusing on East High School. The principal, Dr. Casey Young, and two guidance counselors are on paid administrative leave while the facts are being gathered," said Cash. "I have spoken with Commissioner Elia about this matter and have indicated that I may need the State's assistance if a broader investigation extending to other schools is warranted."

According to the Buffalo News, Superintendent Dr. Kriner Cash is questioning what he said are 'double-digit'' increases in the graduation rate for the Class of 2015 at East.

The New York State Education Department is reviewing the data, which has not been released.

Young has been under fire in the past for other issues regarding East High's graduation data.
