The Buffalo School Board will be heading into special session Tuesday. WBFO'S Focus on Education reporter Eileen Buckley reports Board members will be conducting interviews for superintendent.
"There are two from out of town. One of them worked in the district a few years ago," said School Board Majority Member Jay McCarthy. McCarthy tells WBFO News the two-out-of-town candidates are scheduled to appear when they head into special meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday, just as they did a couple of weeks ago to conduct interviews with three local candidates.
"The three who came out of the district -- Keresztes, Eberle and Mott," said McCarhty. Will Keresztes is associate superintendent for Student Support Services and has served as a past interim superintendent. Kevin Eberle is principal at Harvey Austin School and Greg Mott is principal at Grabiarz School of Excellence.
McCarthy said his objective for Tuesday's interviews is to go in with 'an open mind'.
"I not casting any judgments until I hear everybody. I think that's just should be the fair way to do it," said McCarthy.
The school board's minority and parents groups want the finalists will be brought before the public, but McCarthy isn't so sure that will be possible. "And then it is unfair to the positions that they may hold elsewhere because if they realize they are interviewing for a position here it could compromise potentially their job elsewhere," stated McCarthy.
McCarthy also tells WBFO he feels there is an urgency to name a permanent new leader as another new school year quickly approaches, but for now he's confident that interim leader Darren Brown is a good fit to keep watch over district matters until a new superintendent is selected.
