East Aurora school district tops annual ranking

The East Aurora Union Free School District has moved to the top slot in Business First's academic rankings. This is the first time East Aurora has moved to first place, knocking out longtime leader Williamsville.

"It's a wonderful recognition. We're committed to providing our students with a really well-rounded and rigorous program," said Brian Russ, East Aurora Schools Superintendent.

Russ reacting to taking first place in these annual ratings.  Russ gives his entire team credit for making his district such a success.

Business First says East Aurora earned the top spot for a variety of academic success. It ranks at the top for social studies and is one of two area districts where more than half of all test-takers received superior scores on last year's Regents tests.

East Aurora climbed each year. In 2009 the district was in fourth place. Last year it moved into second and now it's in first.

Williamsville had dominated the list for 11- years from 2004 through last year. But despite moving into second place, the Business First rankings note Williamsville District remains academically strong and is still a regional leader in math.

The Clarence School District is third, followed by Orchard Park and Iroquois.  Buffalo is not in the top 25.
