WBFO News file photo

The Lancaster School District has a list of seven finalists as it continues to decide on a new mascot name to replace the controversial use of the "Redskins" name.

The district revealed that the seven names on its Facebook page.  Students will be voting on the seven final names May 27th.

"The final round of voting will take place including all students of Lancaster High School, Lancaster Middle School, William Street School, and the 3rd grade class representatives on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 using Erie County Board of Elections ballot machines. Students will be choosing among seven logos that will have been professionally rendered, based on consultation with the original artists. In the case of close results (100 of less vote difference) a run-off election will be held on Thursday, May 28," stated the district in a Facebook post.

The new name will be used for the mascots at the high school and middle school.

"Please note that the field was narrowed to seven finalists rather than the expected five due to similarities in design," stated a Facebook post from the district.

In March the school district voted unanimously to change the name because some find it offensive.  The renaming of the mascot is being conducted by a 'naming committee' made up of 21-students.

The student committee said "more than 120 eighth through twelfth grade students who submitted entries."

The following are the seven finalists:

Lancaster Alphas
Lancaster Dragons
Lancaster Jaguars
Lancaster Knights...
Lancaster Legends
Lancaster Pride
Lancaster Red Hawks
