Parent group criticizes Buffalo school budget

Mike Desmond/wbfo news

The Buffalo school system's largest parents group says the proposed budget fails. During a meeting in Makowski School, the District Parent Coordinating Council voted "no confidence" regarding the budget slated to be approved a week from today.

The group says the budget should have input from parents and again this year it doesn't.

Jessica Bauer Walker is DPCC second vice president and head of the Budget Committee. She is an exponent of having enough gym classes for all students.
"We want to recognize that it's a step in the right direction but when you have been this far out of compliance for this long, we were hoping to at least have a three year implementation plan and the district is saying a five year plan and that's too long of a time to get in compliance, Bauer Walker said.

Interim Superintendent Donald Ogilvie's budget proposal does call for hiring more gym teachers but he will be gone July 1.

DPCC President Sam Radford says that's part of the problem this year of one administration preparing a spending plan which will be implemented by an administration which potentially is completely new across the board.
