A new, 10-room science addition will be unveiled at Pioneer Central High School in the Cattaraugus County town of Yorkshire Tuesday night. WBFO's Focus on Education Reporter Eileen Buckley spoke with the district's superintendent ahead of this evening's ribbon cutting.

"The addition of the ten classrooms provides more flexibility within the structure of our school day, in terms of our lab component," said Pioneer Central Schools Superintendent Sharon Huff.  The science wing will be unveiled publicly Tuesday night.

In December of 2012, school district voters approved a $31 million capital project that allowed for construction of this new science wing and other school renovations.

"Part of entire project, under the $31 million, is also to create new music suites," said Huff.

The District's goal is to increase science, technology, engineering and math at the school giving students the variety of the STEM programs. The new science wing is considered 'innovated space' because the labs were built in each of the new classrooms.  Students no longer have to go into a separate lab for class.

Huff noted students are thrilled with the new space. "They have been incredibly excited," said Huff.

"They have been incredibly excited," said Pioneer Central Schools Superintendent Sharon Huff.

Renovations and updates of the building will also be conducted.  Students will proudly assist with tours of the new facility Tuesday evening.

The Pioneer Central School District has more than 2,500 students and encompasses four counties.
