University at Buffalo President Satish Tripathi has announced a five-year-contract extension with athletic director Daniel "Danny" White. The new agreement will extend White's contract through 2019.
"We want to get to the point where all 20-sports are really right there -- knocking on the door. That we have a competitive championship culture across all our student athletes," said White.
White, who was hired in 2012, has worked to beef up the UB sports programs from football to soccer to wrestling.
Tripathi calls his contributions "vital" to the UB community.
“As the University at Buffalo continues to rise in the ranks of the very best national public research universities, our UB athletics department is also elevating its reputation for excellence under the leadership of Athletic Director Danny White,” Tripathi said.
White tells WBFO News the University is 'siting' on so much potential and should have a seat at the table with big time college athletics.
"In the sport of football we want to be going to a bowl game this year. I think we will," noted White
Under White's leadership, UB sports radio network now spans across the state through ESPN network, that will include Friday night's nationally televised game against Baylor.
"The first ever home game on the flagship ESPN channel," state White.
White noted there's still 'a lot of work left to do', but he's ready for the challenge.
