Ogilvie appointed interim Buffalo schools superintendent

Buffalo's Board of Education appointed former Erie 1 BOCES Superintendent Donald Ogilvie as the district's new interim superintendent in a contentious board meeting Wednesday evening.  Ogilvie takes over the post vacated by Pamela Brown, who recently exited the district after two tumultuous years. He was sworn in immediately following the vote.

The new board majority cast five votes in favor of approving Ogilvie's contract. Four minority board members, Barbara Seals Nevergold, Sharon Belton-Cottman, Theresa Harris-Tigg and Mary Ruth Kapsiak abstained from the vote "on the basis of being excluded."

In a news conference following his appointment, Ogilvie cited the need to "bring the temperature down" on the board, which has, at times, been the setting of a very public racial divide.

More to come.
