Conway-Turner appointed Buffalo State president

The State University of New York Board of Trustees has appointed Dr. Katherine Conway-Turner as the ninth president of SUNY Buffalo State. Conway-Turner was recommended to the board from a pool of several candidates in late May. She comes to Buffalo from Hood College in Frederick, Maryland, where she served as the provost as vice president of academic affairs.

"I am confident she will be an outstanding leader for our students, faculty, and staff at SUNY Buffalo State as well as the Western New York community, and I look forward to working with her,” said SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher, in a statement.

Conway-Turner takes over the post vacated by Aaron Podelefsky, who resigned last summer amid health concerns and died of prostate cancer the following month. Her 28-year academic career includes administrative and teaching positions at five universities.

“I saw a tremendous match between my heart and the heart of Buffalo State. I am so excited to be able to be joining Buffalo State in this position and to move this fantastic campus to even higher levels,” said Conway-Turner.

Howard Cohen had been serving as interim president at Buffalo State since last August.
