Colleges & universities across the country work to prevent what is known as 'summer melt'. It involves students who fail to follow through on a commitment to enroll. In this Focus on Education report -- WBFO'S Eileen Buckley talked to the president of the State University of New York at Fredonia Dr. Virginia Horvath about how they work to prevent 'summer melt'.
"We had a target of 1,100 new students and we are close to that number. So we are excited about that. Of course, the challenge is to keep who've said they were coming here over the summer," said Fredonia president Dr. Virginia Horvath.
With the students gone for the summer, planning is underway on the Fredonia for new students arriving this fall. The school is working to avoid summer melt.
