As Buffalo Schools Superintendent Pamela Brown negotiates a buyout from her post, the focus now turns to finding a successor.
The school board has to deal with the superintendent departing any day, the deputy superintendent's contract running out June 30, two other top jobs vacant in the wake of firings and, board leadership changing July 1.
Board President Barbara Seals Nevergold says she understands some other board members are discussing what to do, although the current board majority is in power until the end of June.
With committee meetings Wednesday, many of the board members will be together that night, opening up the possibility of an executive session to further discuss the superintendent post.
"I certainly have heard rumors of individuals named as potential interim superintendents," Nevergold said.
"We should have a transition plan in place before Dr. Brown leaves. I think that's imperative and that's what I'm going to push for."
Seals Nevergold says she favors an interim superintendent, whether or not that person ultimately is offered the job permanently. She says the district is making progress, as shown by new state figures.
