A new daycare and community center is opening in downtown Buffalo. The Erma D. Robinson Universal Center will cater to shift workers at the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus and the fruit belt neighborhood.

The new facility will operate 23 hours a day, Monday through Friday, offering early morning and afterschool programs. The daycare portion of the building has the capacity for 91 children from infants through four year olds. Director of the daycare center Elaine Hayes says she believes when children leave the center, they will be prepared to succeed in any Kindergarten in western New York.

“We are following the Pre-K New York State learning standards, so we are on board with that. We on board with the [Office of] Child and Family Services, our licenser, and we are following everything to the letter,” said Hayes.

Aside from daycare many other programs will operate at the facility, including family health wellness programs, aquatic learning, and a leadership and business academy aimed at preparing students within the Buffalo Public School system for various careers.

“Our goal is to have an entire wrap around service for our students, so they can get everything that they need,” said Hayes.

The new daycare center is expected to be officially open for business next week. For more information about enrollment call (716) 856-0027.
