Assemblyman Ray Walter is calling for New York State Education Commissioner John King to resign. The call comes after King spoke at an education budget hearing in Albany Tuesday. Walter says he is also calling for drastic changes to be made to the Common Core learning standards. He’s echoing the New York State United Teachers' vote of no confidence in King and asking he step down immediately.
“He certainly very eloquent, but unfortunately the eloquence is used to deflect the questions that are posed to him," Walter told WBFO.
"It also appears that he isn’t listening to the vast majority of parents, teachers, and administrators throughout the state who have called on him to make certain changes, and yet he continues to go down the same path. So, a leader that doesn’t listen isn’t a good leader.”
Walter says King also ignored concerns lawmakers had regarding the privacy of student’s information being published on the inBloom database.
The Amherst Republican says the website company even stated that it cannot guarantee that the database is secure.
