School district and union agree on teacher transfers

A agreement on the teacher transfer issue was reached late Friday during a meeting between the Buffalo Teachers Federation and Schools Superintendent Pamela Brown.  The agreement covers teacher transfers at three city schools and ends litigation the BTF was planning.  The resolution of teacher transfers also paves the way for negotiations on a teacher evaluation plan to the State's Education Department.  It's due in two-weeks.

BTF President Phil Rumore says he's confident a compromise will be reached on what's known as the Annual Professional Performance Review.

"Even though we haven't been negotiating with the district on the APPR document, we here at the BTF have been working to get back to the table," Rumore said.  "We have a number of ideas.  I am quite confident we will meet the deadline."

But any agreement must go before union members for a final vote.  Tens of millions of dollars in funding is at risk if the District fails to get an evaluation plan to the state on time.
