Candidates for Buffalo Schools superintendent meet media & school board

Two of the three candidates to succeed former Buffalo Schools superintendent James Williams met with reporters Thursday afternoon at City Hall.

Edward Newsome Junior, currently an an assistant superintendent in Baltimore County, Maryland; and interim Buffalo Schools Chief Amber Dixon.  A third candidate was out of town.

Newsome and Dixon are both well-educated and both have ample professional experience.  In terms of credentials, each brings something to the table.  Asked, why he's interested in Buffalo, Newsome said, "Buffalo ...the characteristics for the school system speak very well and align very well with my skill set and areas that I've
worked with before."

Amber Dixon said she's learned a lot since taking over on an interim basis nine months ago.

"I think the past nine months or so have really been important in finding the nuances of how we get things done in this district and in this city," said Dixon.

The public had a chance to meet Newsome and Dixon at Waterfront School last night. On Friday, members of the Buffalo Board of Education will conduct candidate interviews.
