Katherine "Kat" Massey was laid to rest Monday, as funerals continue for the victims of the racist attack at the Tops supermarket on Jefferson Avenue May 14.
The 72-year-old Massey has been described by her friends as a civil rights and education advocate. Nearly a year ago she wrote a letter to The Buffalo News, calling for action targeting gun violence in Buffalo and other cities.
Massey was among 10 people killed when a white gunman in body armor targeted shoppers and workers. Three others were injured and eleven of the 13 shooting victims were African American.
Massey's services took place at Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church on Michigan Avenue and more shooting victim funerals are pending this week.
The 18-year-old alleged gunman is currently being held for first degree murder, while other charges may be pending.
