Hamburg woman pleads guilty to allowing middle school student access to her gun

The student brought the gun to Frontier Middle School.

In Hamburg Town Court Thursday, Lynora Zylinski-Sowa, 59, of Hamburg pleaded guilty to a charge of disorderly conduct, then sentenced to a conditional discharge.

The court appearance stems from a morning incident Sept. 28, when a student brought the woman's pistol into Frontier Middle School. Another student reported the incident to school officials. The loaded gun, another loaded magazine and other loose rounds were seized.

The case against the juvenile student offender, who lived with the defendant, is pending in Family Court.

The charge against Zylinski-Sowa resulted because she failed to safely store the weapon, which she legally owned, to prevent an unauthorized person from gaining possession.

As part of her plea, she has forfeited the weapon, and is now prohibited from re-applying for a pistol permit for two years.
