Driver pulled from fiery vehicle, then charged with DWI

Town of Tonawanda Police rescued the driver of the burning vehicle.

A Thursday afternoon motor vehicle crash in the Town of Tonawanda resulted in therescue of the driverfrom his burning vehicle by police officers, then his arrest for driving while ability impaired.

Town police and paramedics responded to a call of a car through a fence that struck a pole along Parker Boulevard near Sparky Adams Field near Lincoln Park at around 1:45 p.m. Thursday. First responders found the driver locked in the vehicle with a fire burning.

The driver responded to police commands to unlock the doors, then police dragged him away from the vehicle. Witnesses say the driver, Saverio Depinto, 46, of Tonawanda, was speeding on Faraday Road and ran a stop sign at Parker before crashing.

Police determined Depinto showed signs of drug induced impairment and he now faces felony, misdemeanor and traffic charges, with an appearance in Tonawanda Town Court scheduled for May 12.
