City Hall protester gets 5 years in federal prison

A masked, but shirtless Courtland Renford
Buffalo Police
Courtland Renford was caught on surveillance video rioting at Buffalo City Hall in May 2020.

The Buffalo man who was convicted of rioting in connection with a violent protest at Buffalo City Hall has been sentenced to five years in federal prison.

Prosecutors said Courtland Renford, 22, was recorded on surveillance video rioting and looting a convenience store on Elmwood Avenue at Summer Street in Buffalo just after 10 p.m on May 30, 2020.

Over an hour later, Renford joined a protest and looting at City Hall, and threw a flaming laundry basket through a broken window. That resulted in a fire that damaged or destroyed items inside City Hall that Buffalo firefighters had to extinguish.
