An apparent domestic violence incident turned into a double murder-suicide early Thursday morning in Buffalo.
Buffalo Police were called to a home on Layer Avenue in the city's Riverside neighborhood after neighbors heard shots fired.
When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered a 27-year-old woman and her 63-year-old mother deceased in the home. There was also a six-year-old child, who was uninjured.
Police said they were able to trace the younger woman's 36-year-old boyfriend to his address on Tenth Street on the city's Lower West Side and the SWAT team was called in. Tear gas was fired into the upper-floor apartment at the location and officers with a search warrant then entered and found the suspect dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The six-year-old was taken to Oishei Children's Hospital to be checked out. Victim names have not been released at this time.
Buffalo Police Capt. Jeff Rinaldo said agencies like Crisis Services and the Family Justice Center can help people in domestic violence situations. Crisis Services can be contacted at 716-834-3131. The Family Justice Center is available at 716-558-SAFE (7233). In an emergency, however, both organizations advise calling 911.
