Former Chautauqua County village clerk arrested for theft

The former village clerk in Bemus Point has been arrested for the theft of more than $60,000 in village funds. Jennifer Jaeger, 38, of Bemus Point has been charged with second degree grand larceny, second degree forgery, first degree falsifying business records and official misconduct.

Jaeger is accused of writing village checks to herself with forged signatures and having village officials sign blank checks she later cashed. She also allegedly used the village bank account and a village gasoline credit card for personal expenses.

The arrest follows a joint investigation among the State Comptroller's Office, the Chautauqua County District Attorney's Office and the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office.
