Former state trooper pleads guilty to rape

Erie County District Attorney's Office

A terminated New York State trooper has pleaded guilty to raping one woman and impersonating a law enforcement officer to gain personal information from two others.

The Erie County District Attorney's Office said Jason Lanning, 46, of Depew is facing up to four years in prison when he is sentenced Jan. 21, 2021. He remains held without bail.

Lanning was originally facing eight charges and raping two women, which could have meant life in prison. He was terminated as a state trooper in 2010 and committed the crimes in 2016 and 2019.
