Buffalo man arraigned in death of girlfriend's toddler

A Buffalo man charged in the death of his girlfriend's young daughter was arraigned in State Supreme Court Wednesday.

Robert Dumas, 35, was virtually arraigned on an indictment charging him with second degree murder and first degree mansalughter.

Dumas is accused of fatally beating the 17-month-old daughter of his girlfriend between Aug. 1 and Sept. 15 at a home on Hirschbeck Street in Buffalo. The child, identified as Simone Calhoun, died from blunt force trauma on Sept. 19, after being taken unresponsive to Oishei Children's Hospital.

The suspect is being held without bail and if convicted of both charges, faces a maximum of 25 years to life in prison. His next court date is pending.
