Arrest made in Grand Island stabbing

The Erie County Sheriff's Department has arrested a Niagara Falls man, following an assault and stabbing at an apartment complex on Grand Island late Sunday afternoon.

Deputies arriving on the scene on Bedell Road said they observed a male who was bleeding, holding down another man. The wounded male was determined to have been stabbed in the upper torso with a sharp instrument by a delivery driver who was at a different apartment.

First aid was given to the victim by the deputies, who arrested Bart Cordwell, 53, and charged him with a felony count of assault with intent to cause injury with a weapon and a misdemeanor count of criminal possession of a weapon with intent to use.

Both men were taken to Erie County Medical Center for evaluation and treatment. Cordwell was then taken to the Erie County Holding Center, as the investigation continues.
