Lancaster woman pleads guilty to embezzling $223K from employer

A Lancaster woman pleaded guilty Wednesday to two felony counts of second degree grand larceny, in connection with the theft of over $223,000 from her employer.

Karen Titus, 57, admitted to taking the money from Acme Bearings Corporation from July 2016 to June 2019 by writing 138 checks for personal credit card bills totalling more than $165,000. She was also charged with diverting more than $58,000 in cash for personal use.

The thefts were discovered after an internal audit. Titus was fired from her post as a bookkeeper in June of last year. She was released on her own recognizance, but faces up to 15 years in prison at her sentencing, scheduled in State Supreme Court on Jan. 26.
