New rewards offered on area homicides

Crime Stoppers
Bandar Elwaseem (l) and Cheryl Mayes.

Crime Stoppers is offering rewards for information regarding two area homicides.

On March 11, 2017, Cheryl Mayes, 38, died after an apparent attack in an apartment on Bedell Road on Grand Island. On April 6, 2019, Bandar Elwaseem, 12, died after being struck by a stray bullet while in his family's apartment in Buffalo.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $7,500 reward for each of these cases. The FBI is also posting a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest or indictment of the person or persons responsible for Elwaseem's death.

Anybody with information about these cases is asked to call Crime Stoppers Buffalo at 867-6161. Tips can also be submitted through the Crime Stoppers mobile app, "Buffalo Tips," where other rewards are displayed.
