Police charge man in hit-and-run of Jamestown toddler

Jamestown Police have announced the identity of the suspect accused of striking a two-year-old child with his vehicle then driving away.

Nicholas Evans, 27, has been charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, plus several vehicle and traffic violations, Thursday evening.

Evans is accused of driving to a nearby parking lot, where witnesses to the accident surrounded his car and broke the driver's side window. Evans then drove to another parking lot, where police took him into custody.

The toddler was walking with his family on East Fifth Street. He was treated for a broken leg at UPMC Chautauqua and has since been released.

Evans has a pending date at Jamestown City Court.
