8 people rounded up in early morning drug raid

Eight people have been rounded up in an early Wednesday morning drug raid. The U.S. Attorney's Office said the eight are part of a drug ring that stretched from Buffalo to Mexico.

Six defendants are being charged with conspiring to possess with intent to distribute, and distributing controlled substances. If convicted, each suspect could get a maximum 20-year prison term and a $1 million fine.

Two other defendants were indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of narcotics conspiracy and possessing with intent to distribute crack cocaine and cocaine. Those charges carry a minimum of five years and a maximum of 40 years in prison and a $5 million fine.

The U.S. Attorney's Office said the morning raids at four area locations on search warrants recovered drugs, a loaded gun, a large assortment of ammunition, plus about $27,000 in cash.
