For a third time, attorneys for former Western New York Rep. Chris Collins are requesting a delay in the date he is supposed to report to federal prison after his conviction on insider trading charges.
The Clarence Republican was sentenced to 26 months in federal prison and ordered to report to a detention facility in Pensacola, FL in March.
Due to concerns over the coronavirus pandemic and Collins' 70-year-old age and other health issues, delays were granted in the subsequent months to June 23, then to Aug. 18.
Now his attorneys are asking to push the date back once again, this time to Oct. 13. The delay request letter describes Collins as "an elderly, first-time, non-violent offender, (who) would face a serious and unnecessary risk to his health and well-being" if he went to prison this month.
